Laura Review by Constantine Soo the Royal Device LAURA had competent and convincing sense of scale and weight in the conveyance of a full orchestra.

"the defining moment for the Italian loudspeaker occurred when it was conjuring up incredible low-level resolution resembling those from the Audio Note AN-E SEC Silver speaker, making it the next most resolute transducer I’ve auditioned" by Constantine Soo

Laura MKII speaker is a 2 ways horn loaded loudspeaker system fully designed, hand crafted, and manufactured in Italy by Royal Device with optimum design and finishing with very compact size in respect to the low end frequency response and efficiency. Features a phase reversal triple folded back horn loading (custom design). The design suits for a very simple in-house placement .The 8 1/2" woofer has been especially custom made by Royal Device for the Laura and Diana Royal Device loudspeaker systems. The woofer has a mean sensitivity of 98.5 dB together with very high velocity, dynamic response and an extremely extended low frequency response due to the woofer very low resonating frequency and back horn loading system. The new MIRANDA and LADY constant directivity HORNs  are a perfect complement to it. The horns are completely Royal Device custom design product that loads a soft dome SEAS tweeter. This reproduces full 2– 20 KHz bandwidth with 99 dB efficiency together with an optimum flat response without using a frontal phaser. The hi-cut of the horn (9 KHz) with no need of attenuation, makes the speaker a perfect balanced system avoiding any horn nasality. The choice of no crossover on the woofer together with a new frontal WF mechanical alignment (MKII) and the Royal Device  custom technology for  woofer high break-ups reduction gives a perfect  matching to the HI-HORN  towards WF decay using a 24 dB slope HI-HORN filter in a phase coherent manner .  Woofer bandwidth rise up to 9.5 KHz @- 6 dB, for a full audio band direct radiation with no "midrange horn compression nasality". High improvements have been made into the cabinet of the LAURA MKII version releasing 101 dB efficiency ("A" weighted ) and providing the best equilibrium between frontal loading and back WF loading for indoor use and better S.E. amp matching.  All components used are first class as the new generation Royal Device AudioCap PPFF custom made capacitors.

  •  N. 1 - 21 cm (8 ½ inches) woofer with high quality low weight paper cone on aluminum die-casting with central phase mechanical filtering for no crossover implementation
  • Woofer type of loading: Reverse phased triple folded back horn (custom design).
  • RELEASE 3.0 (MKII) features the NEW Royal Device  (14 cm  - 5 ½" ) MIRANDA or LADY HORN Constant directivity emission on both vertical and horizontal planes. Fully Hand-crafted in one piece Solid Wood.
  • Horn uses a ¾" soft dome SEAS tweeter without frontal phase alignment as driver.
  • Mean Sensitivity: 98.5 dB / 2.83 Volt / 1 meter (101 dB "A" weighted). 99 dB LAURA TOP MODEL with hi-selection woofers (101.5 dB "A" weighted in ambience)
  • Frequency response: 24 - 20,000 Hz Studio & Standard Model.  22 - 20,000 Hz TOP MODELS
  • Woofer crossover type: No crossover. Woofer is provided with a custom Royal Device technology to highly reduce high break up.
  • HI-Horn filter type: 24 dB/octave slope phase coherent filter to woofer decay

STANDARD HORN POSITION

FIG. 1 - Ear height alingned to horn center line.

Horn aligned on the top label center line. Medium distance considered from speaker 3.5 meters ( 10.5  feet).  More away the listening point is less the phase correction will be needed.

FIG.2 - Ear height higher than  horn center line.

Horn POSITION has to be moved back. The amount of movement depends on the speaker to ear distance and on the ear to ground height

FIG.3 - Ear height lower than  horn center line.

Horn position has to be moved forward. The amount of movement depends on the speaker to ear distance and on the ear to ground height
